Know the Play

In sports, and just life in general, it is important to prepare in order to understand what is going on. If you forget the play, you could cost your team the game winning point. If you aren’t prepared for an important work meeting, you’ll probably get fired. As such, it is vital to prepare for situations as much as you possibly can.

For example, as I begin interviewing professionals who work in the orthopedic field or who work closely with orthopedic surgeons, I will need to prepare in advance. During this week, I will be conducting my first few interviews. While I am somewhat nervous, I have put all of my efforts into preparing for the interview by determining my most important questions and talking points that I would like to mention. I am sure that my preparation will help me successfully conduct the interview to gain more knowledge about a career in orthopedic surgery.

These new experiences did seem daunting originally, but as I spend more time arranging what I would like to talk about, I become more confident. This is very similar to when I had to learn new plays at a moment’s notice during a basketball game. In order to be successful, it was essential that I approached the situation with the ability to adapt and perform under pressure. If I am able to translate these vital skills into my interviews with orthopedic and sports medicine professionals, I will be as successful as I can be.
