Everybody has to overcome obstacles all throughout their lives. Whether it was taking their first steps or facing their strongest competitor, they eventually had to face the challenge head-on. However, no one actively wishes for adversity to constantly get in their way.
During this past week in ISM, I was assigned to complete my first annotated bibliography. When I first began researching, I had no idea where to start or how I should proceed with my interest in orthopaedic surgery. However, as I scavenged through many academic articles, I finally found one with a topic that interested me, the recovery process after orthopaedic surgery. As a result, I began my search for more academic sources that related to injury prevention and the recovery process after experiencing an orthopaedic injury.
That is when I met my next obstacle. I was faced with thousands of articles on topics relating to orthopaedic injuries, but most of them did not fit with the topic I had in mind. It took me several nights to find five articles that covered the topic of orthopaedic injury prevention and treatment. I was finally able to successfully complete the assignment to the best of my ability, and I have begun thinking about what I would like to do with my final project in the ISM program.
Even though I faced many obstacles during the process of completing my first annotated bibliography, I also gained many useful skills that will help me when I face adversity in the future.
